Overview
In New York City, suspended scaffold work must be supervised by a rigging foreman designated by a licensed Master or Special Rigger, and that foreman must complete this 32-hour DOB-approved course (NYC Building Code 3314.4.5.3). The course covers NYC Building Code and OSHA rules for suspended scaffolds, reading scaffold drawings, permits, inspection and logbooks, hoist motors and emergency controls, fall protection, and how to train and check the rigging crew. The hands-on part is done in person with an instructor: knots and hitches, wire rope termination, block and tackle, tie-backs and lifelines. Together with the 16-hour Special Rigger course, it is also required before applying for a NYC Special Rigger license.
